Portable Offices – one of the UK’s leading providers of portable buildings and suppliers of portable accommodation – has provided a novel cabin clad in cedar and situated it on a pontoon at Portishead Quays Marina.
The building will be used as a boat sales office within the marina complex which includes a recreation of a Cornish fishing village and pub constructed from shipping containers along with many other unique features.
The eclectic mix of styles dictated an unusual approach for the portable building, Cedar cladding was used externally which is complemented by fully glazed patio doors and portholes, internally a porthole was fitted and within the cabin partition. Steps in the quay side lead down to the specially constructed pontoon where the cabin is situated and to the side of the cabin is an area where children to go ‘crabbing.’
Marina Manager Keith Berry, said: “It was really important for the cabin to blend into the marina surroundings and I am pleased to say that between Quay Marina, Portable Offices and Walcon Marine the vision really has been achieved.
Portable Offices have worked hard to provide a very good product which was backed up with an excellent service, I would definitely recommend them.”
Portable Offices Manager, Dennis Gay, said: “It was quite challenging sorting out the pontoon but that was really the only option as there was no dockside space available.
“Sitting a building on a pontoon creates many challenges, lengthy discussions were required with the client and pontoon manufacturer to create a pontoon design that would not only fully support the building but allow for secret fixings and offer a level access condition to the entrance doors.
“The cladding needed to match the other buildings and it does blend very well with the marina surroundings. I think this aptly demonstrates the versatility of portable buildings.”
